Athens Hosts Global Cruise & Yachting Majors

Over 200 Greek and international delegates and exhibitors from 25 countries and a prestigious line up of senior officials and key decision makers from the global cruising and yachting sectors will anchor in Athens at the end of this month for a series of debates on the prospects and challenges facing sea tourism in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea regions.

Thailand: Bagged Rice Cargoes

It has recently been brought to the attention of the American Club that Thailand, in order to increase its export trade, intends to release stockpiles of rice accumulated from harvests dating as far back as 2005. It has advised its Members as follows:
South Africa: Ports Cargo Handling Code of Practice

The South African Maritime Safety Authority has issued guidance about which regulations are in force governing the safe handling of cargo at the country's ports.
Panama Canal: Pilotage Regulation

The Panama Canal Authority has issued Advisory 08-2013 013, reminding masters of transiting vessels that the pilot assigned to the vessel shall have control of the navigation and movement of the vessel. Failure to comply with the pilot's orders, or performing manoeuvers without the pilot's consent, may result in damage to the vessel and/or Canal structures and, on occasion, sanctions to the vessel.
U.S. Port State Control Detentions on Water Mist Systems

Due to a series of recent U.S. Port State Control (PSC) detentions within the last twelve months, regarding inoperative water mist systems on foreign flagged vessels, the Marshall Islands has issued an Advisory as follows, to underscore the importance of having all water mist systems fully checked and verified to be in satisfactory working order, prior to entering U.S. waters, particularly in the U.S. ports of the Gulf of Mexico.
