European Commission approves €114 million aid for extension of Piraeus port

The European Commission has ruled that €113.9 million in Greek support for an infrastructure project of €120 million at the Port of Piraeus is in accordance with EU state aid rules. In particular, the project will further the objectives of EU transport policy and cohesion without unduly distorting competition in the internal market.
EU: Council conclusions on Somalia

The Council of the European Union has issued Council conclusions on Somalia stating, among other things, that the EU remains fully committed to fighting piracy and armed robbery off the coast of Somalia.

According to the IMB's new piracy report of the second quarter of 2013, Somali piracy has fallen to its lowest level since 2006, thus focusing attention on violent piracy and armed robbery off the coast of West Africa.
SOLAS: Lifeboat safety Update

IMO Circular MSC.1/Circ.1392 – SOLAS Regulation III/1.5 requires that for all ships, on-load release mechanisms not complying with paragraphs 4.4.7.6.4 to 4.4.7.6.6 of the Life Saving Appliances (LSA) Code must be replaced or modified not later than the next scheduled dry-docking after 1 July 2014, but not later than 1 July 2019.

A recently released INTERTANKO–OCIMF information paper publishes guidelines to oil tanker operators and other interested parties on the potential consequences of switching fuel between residual and distillate fuels where ships' installations have typically been designed and manufactured to be used with residual fuels (HFO).
