With great success and in the presence of representatives of the Government, Local Authorities and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, the first award ceremony of the “Kunpeng Scholarship” (PPA–COSCO SHIPPING Kunpeng Scholarship) took place today at the premises of Piraeus Port Authority.
This is a new corporate social responsibility initiative by PPA S.A., which supports first-year university students with outstanding academic performance from the neighboring municipalities of Piraeus, Perama, Keratsini–Drapetsona and Salamina, providing tangible assistance for the first steps of their academic journey.
During the ceremony, scholarships were awarded to ten students, in recognition of their high performance and as active support for their access to higher education.
The event was attended by and featured addresses from the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Greece, H.E. Fang Qiu,, President of the Greece–China Friendship Group & MP Ioannis Tragakis as well as the mayors of Piraeus, Perama, and Salamina—Mr. Ioannis Moralis, Mr. Giannis Lagoudakos, Mr. Georgios Panagopoulos and General Secretary of Keratsini–Drapetsona, Konstantinos Tsefalas —who warmly congratulated the students for their performance and personal effort, highlighting the essential role such initiatives play in strengthening social cohesion and supporting the younger generation.
The event also included the reading of an address by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Ms. Domna Michailidou, which underscored the importance of the joint efforts of institutions such as PPA S.A., COSCO SHIPPING and the municipalities of the region, who actively support young people through scholarships and social support programs.
In his opening address, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PPA S.A., Mr. Han Chao, underscored the deeper social dimension of this initiative, noting:
“By investing in young people, we invest in the future of our local communities and of the country. At Piraeus Port Authority, we recognise that our role goes beyond operating as a strong economic entity; it extends to a lasting commitment and responsibility towards society. With consistency and a spirit of contribution, we will continue to stand by the younger generation, creating opportunities, empowering their progress and contributing meaningfully to a society with greater equity and perspective.”
Following the scholarship awards, PPA S.A. proceeded with the distribution of 5,000 Christmas gift vouchers for children in the neighboring municipalities, as well as families of workers in the shipbuilding and repair sector, providing essential support to local communities during the holiday season. This initiative forms part of the Organisation’s broader social programme, which focuses on supporting vulnerable groups and promoting actions with a substantial social footprint.
The “Kunpeng Scholarship” programme is expected to be established as an annual institution, further strengthening the relationship between Piraeus Port Authority and the local communities and offering valuable support to the young people who represent the future of the country.
