On 12 December 2013 the Commission published the 2013 annual and multi-annual calls for proposal under the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) programme. A budget of 80 million Euros is foreseen for Motorways of the Sea. The deadline for submitting projects is 11 March 2014.

Priority will be given to Motorways of the Sea (MoS) projects which address the implementation of the SOx requirements and projects which envisage trade facilitation (single window, etc).

As mentioned in the call documents, "Priority will be given to implementation projects, pilot projects and studies which contribute to addressing the environmental challenges faced by the short sea shipping sector, in particular in view of the forthcoming requirements with respect to the implementation of the requirements of Annex VI of the IMO MARPOL Convention. Actions supporting the deployment of alternative fuels and emission abatement technologies or which promote the use of shore-side electricity fall under this category."

Pilot actions and studies can be funded up to 50%, while implementation projects can receive EU funding up to 20%.
