The Greek-owned fleet was increased, but the number of Greek shipping companies declined, according to Petrofin Research's annual survey for the Greek-owned fleet and the Greek shipping companies. According to Petrofin, in 2017, shipping companies based in Greece controled 5,281 ships.
In 2016 the companies were 638 and the fleet consisted of 5,230 vessels.
