Piraeus Container Terminal S.A. (PCT) awarded four scholarships of €2,500 each to four female students from the Municipality of Perama who were admitted to Greek Higher Educational Institutions for the academic year 2024–2025. This new scholarship program, established by PCT this year, aims to reward graduates from public high schools or vocational schools in Perama who achieved high scores in the national entrance exams and meet specific social and financial criteria.
The scholarship awards ceremony took place on Saturday, November 2, during a celebratory event organized by PCT, which also included a basketball tournament for students of Neo Ikonio Elementary School in Perama to commemorate the inauguration of a newly renovated basketball court— a project completed through PCT’s donation. During the event, PCT Managing Director Captain Wang Jihang, presented the scholarships to the four successful first-year students, and Perama’s Mayor, Mr. Ioannis Lagoudakos, honored PCT for its contribution to education and youth. He stated: "We welcome the new residents of Perama: COSCO and PCT, and we hope that for the next thousand years, the Greek culture of this seafaring city will coexist with the culture of the People's Republic of China."
Following the award, Miss Klontiana Gioka, one of the four scholarship recipients, expressed during her speech: "The effort that brought me here didn’t start just this year; it has been years in the making. From a young age, I understood the great value of education both for myself and for the future of society. I would like to thank all those present today and especially PCT for this opportunity and for recognizing my efforts in this way. I didn’t expect any reward, and I wasn’t doing it for a reward, but being acknowledged like this for one’s efforts can only bring good and instill hope.”
Finally, Captain Wang Jihang, Managing Director of PCT, shared during the event: "The smiles and the emotions of the children and their families are the greatest reward for all of us at PCT. The impact of these initiatives inspires us and strengthens our commitment to continue supporting the children and youth of this region, aiming to create better conditions and more opportunities for them. I would like to thank the Perama Municipal Authorities for their public recognition of our work, as well as the parents, students, and PCT employees who honored us with their presence on this festive day."
